GUELPH – The Guelph Police Service is recognizing a Guelph girl for her bravery during an emergency situation.
Police say during an emergency call in early 2025, then-six-year-old Abigail Adhanom demonstrated notable bravery and maintained a calm demeanour, both during the incident and later while speaking with police and paramedics.
“Abigail provided critical information which assisted in resolving the emergency. Abigail’s actions reflected strong protective instincts and composure under stress, far beyond her six years,” police said in a news release.
The Junior Citizen Award has been presented annually by the Guelph Police Service since 2006. The award recognizes people under the age of 18 who have been involved in a police-related incident in a positive way.
Recipients are nominated by members of the police service, with support from the Guelph Police Association and the Guelph Police Service Board.
This year marks the 20th annual presentation of the award.
