WELLINGTON NORTH – The Township of Wellington North is reminding drivers that stopping is prohibited in posted “No Stopping” zones on municipal streets, including John Street in Mount Forest.
The reminder comes as Township officials continue to enforce Parking Control By-law 6000-23 (amended by By-law 010-2024), which took effect in November 2023 and outlines parking and stopping regulations across the municipality.
According to the Township, “In ‘No Stopping Zones,’ vehicles are not allowed to stop at all – even for a short time.” Officials say drivers cannot pull over to drop off passengers, wait briefly, or idle their vehicle unless it is required for safety or directed by police.
The Township says the zones are clearly marked with signage and are designed to “keep traffic moving, improve visibility, and protect pedestrians.” Many of the restrictions are in place during weekday morning and afternoon peak periods, especially near schools and busy areas.
Officials are also reminding residents that parking and stopping rules are enforced by By-law Enforcement Officers and the Ontario Provincial Police. Drivers who violate the rules could face tickets or further enforcement action.
Residents are encouraged to pay attention to posted signs and use approved parking areas for pick-ups and drop-offs to help keep Township streets safe.
