A previous mayoral candidate, Neil Dunsmore, is returning to the election for Centre Wellington Mayor.
Dunsmore ran for mayor in 2022, but fell 688 votes behind current mayor, Shawn Watters.
According to a Centre Wellington press release, Dunsmore said this decision was based on a “clear concern shared by many residents.”
“Centre Wellington’s future should be planned with residents, not imposed on them,” Dunsmore said.
The press release said a central part of his mission is to create a Community Planning Permit System.
“A Community Planning Permit System would allow Centre Wellington to define where growth belongs, what infrastructure must be in place, what design standards must be met and how neighbourhoods, farmland, trees, parks, trails, natural spaces and local character should be protected.”
Dunsmore said he is not anti-growth, but said residents are opposed to “chaotic growth.”
“Centre Wellington is a remarkable community, but we are at a turning point,” Dunsmore said.
