GUELPH –Â Police are warning residents of a water survey scam, this after a resident reported a suspected scam after receiving a call inviting them to complete a water-usage survey for a chance to win a gift certificate.
Guelph Police say the next day, the caller told the resident they had won and asked to schedule a water test and prize delivery.
Although the resident declined the test, a young male arrived shortly afterward seeking entry into the resident’s home.
The resident refused entry and threatened to call police when the male could not provide details about the business he claimed to represent.
Guelph Police Service would like to remind residents not to let anyone enter your home unless you have invited them and/or you have taken steps to verify who they are.
If you believe you or a family member may be a victim of a fraud, contact your local police service and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre
