NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
On June 12, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), alongside local Fire and EMS were dispatched to a two motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 4th Line and Wellington Road 12, within Mapleton Township.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that a van and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided at the intersection, resulting in multiple occupants from both motor vehicles sustaining serious life-threatening-injuries, alongside several fatalities.
It was also discovered that nine individuals were from the van, and one individual was within the SUV. All drivers and passengers suffered various serious injuries and were either assessed at the scene, sent to local hospital, or air lifted to various trauma centres.
The OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team is still on scene and is assisting the Wellington County OPP with this investigation.
The intersection of 4th Line and Wellington Road 12 is closed in all directions, and will continue to remain so for the majority of the day and may lead into the evening. The public is asked to use alternate routes.
The OPP would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this investigation. The OPP is also working on confirming all next of kin have been notified prior to any additional information being released, out of respect for the families involved.
