NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(WEST REGION, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding drivers of the serious dangers associated with pulling out in front of large commercial vehicles as part of the “Stop. Look. Live.” campaign.
Transport trucks require significantly more time and distance to come to a complete stop compared to passenger vehicles. When drivers misjudge this distance or fail to yield properly, the consequences can be catastrophic-not only for those directly involved, but for their families, loved ones, and the broader community.
“Commercial drivers cannot stop instantly. Drivers must take the time to ensure there is enough space and that it is truly safe before entering an intersection. – Staff Sergeant Julie McLeod, West Region OPP Traffic and Marine.
Motorists are reminded to take the following precautions:
- Allow ample time and distance before entering or crossing in front of large vehicles
- Never assume a transport truck can slow down or stop quickly
- Approach intersections with patience and caution, especially in high-speed or rural areas
- Remain alert and avoid distractions that may impact decision-making
Even a moment of impatience or a misjudgment can result in life-altering consequences.
Respecting the limitations of commercial vehicles is not just about following the rules-it is about protecting lives and preventing tragedies that cannot be undone.
Taking a few extra seconds to stop, look, and assess the situation carefully can make the difference between a safe journey and a devastating outcome.
Stop. Look. Live.
