WELLINGTON NORTH – The Ontario government is investing more than $6.1 million to support infrastructure upgrades and repairs at hospitals across Perth-Wellington, including more than $615,000 for North Wellington Healthcare Corporation.
According to a provincial news release, the funding is being delivered through Ontario’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF), which supports critical maintenance and repairs to hospital facilities. The local investment is part of a province-wide commitment of more than $266 million for 126 hospitals across Ontario.
North Wellington Healthcare Corporation will receive $615,549, including $415,549 through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund and an additional $200,000 in Exceptional Circumstances Program funding. The funding will help address priority infrastructure needs and ensure patients continue to receive care in safe, modern facilities close to home.
“Investing in hospital infrastructure helps ensure patients and families continue to have access to high-quality care close to home,” said Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae. “Our government is strengthening local hospitals by investing in the facilities and infrastructure they need to deliver exceptional care today and meet the needs of our growing communities for years to come.”
The Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund allows hospitals to complete essential projects such as replacing roofs and windows, upgrading security systems and fire alarms, and improving emergency generators. Since 2024, the Ontario government has increased funding for the program by 10 per cent annually.
Also receiving funding is Listowel Memorial Hospital, which has been allocated $309,078, while the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance will receive $5,220,021, bringing the total local investment to $6,144,648.
Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones said the funding will help strengthen health care across the region.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Perth-Wellington can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” Jones said. “This investment will enable North Wellington Healthcare Corporation, Listowel Memorial Hospital and the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance to address priority infrastructure needs so patients and their families can continue to access vital services and care in their community.”
The province says the investment is part of its long-term plan to modernize Ontario’s health-care system, with approximately $64 billion committed to major health infrastructure projects over the next decade, including more than 50 hospital projects across the province.
