NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – A St. Thomas driver has been arrested for impaired driving following a collision in Salem.
On July 11, 2026, at approximately 1:45 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a single vehicle collision into a retaining wall on Geddes Street in Salem. The driver fled prior to police arrival and was located a short distance away from the scene.
As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old from St. Thomas, is charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Fail to report accident
- Fail to report damage to property on highway
The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 21, 2026.
