NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – An individual has been arrested in connection to a intimate partner violence investigation in Wallenstein.
On July 9, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit, supported by the Wellington County OPP Community Street Crime Unit, Wellington County OPP frontline officers, West Region Regional Support Team, West Region Canine Unit, and West Region Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence in Wallenstein in relation to a weapons investigation.
The search resulted in the seizure of five firearms and assorted ammunition.
As a result of the investigation, a 67-year-old from Wallenstein, is charged under the Criminal Code with:
· Unauthorized possession of a firearm
· Careless storage of a firearm
· Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on a later date.
The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victim(s).
