(CENTRE WELLINGTON) – According to Wellington County OPP, on July 11, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Wellington County OPP officers attended a residence in Fergus to conduct a compliance check on an individual who had previously been released from custody in relation to other criminal matters.
Officers attempted to take an individual into custody. During the arrest, two officers were assaulted and sustained minor injuries.
Police said as a result of the investigation, Josiah Burton (21) from Fergus, was charged under the Criminal Code with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, two counts of obstructing a peace officer, mischief and failure to comply with a release order.
The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.
Additionally, Jayce Burton (18) from Fergus, was charged under the Criminal Code with assaulting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and theft under $5,000.
The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Sept. 29, 2026.
On July 18, 2026, Jacinta Davidson (40) from Fergus, was arrested under the Criminal Code with assaulting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and theft under $5,000.
The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Sept. 29, 2026.
