Two Guelph-based charities are on the hunt for a new warehouse to continue providing their services to the community.
The Children’s Foundation of Guelph Wellington (CFGW) and the Guelph Community Health Centre (GCHC) currently run programs out of a warehouse on Huron Street in Guelph.
One of these programs is The SEED; it’s operated by GCHC and is a project to provide more accessible food to residents such as through their discounted grocery program.
GCHC CEO, Melissa Kwiatkowski, said they need the roughly 25,000 square feet of warehouse space to continue running their logistics hub-style distribution centre.
A warehouse style operation allows a massive amount of food to reach the streets of Guelph-Wellington.
For example, The SEED distributes food which would have normally been wasted, this food is typically acquired from organizations such as Second Harvest and this is all possible due to the scale of their logistics hub on Huron.
However, the property’s tenants must make way by the end of 2027 for a new development, planned to start construction in 2028.

In the meantime CFGW and GCHC have partnered up to find a new interim warehouse until a permanent location can be determined.
Karyn Kirkwood, CFGW’s executive director, said disrupting their programs would be a disservice to the community.
Kwiatkowski said a new space will ensure the investment of time and resources into these programs will not go to waste.
Kirkwood said the need to rely on programs provided by CFGW and GCHC has become more apparent over the years.
According to CFGW’s annual report from April 2024 – March 2025, over 2.6 million meals were served as schools across Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin through CFGW Nutrition Programs.
In 2025 The SEED delivered food to over 80 schools in the area with 1,266 prepared orders.
CFGW and GCHC are reaching out to the community to find a new warehouse space as soon as feasible to continue their impactful services.
Both parties said working together and with the community is the strongest way forward.
