NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TWP, ON) – Distracted driver drives through intersection, failing to stop for stop sign and lands into a nearby forested area, requiring chainsaws to free the vehicle.
On August 2, 2026, at approximately 04:00 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision at a ‘T-intersection’ of Jones Baseline and Eastview Road, Guelph-Eramosa Township, with the motor vehicle being found lodged into a nearby forested area.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the driver had operated their motor vehicle while being distracted, rapidly entered into the intersection with no regard for other drivers or stop-signs, and landed into a nearby forested area, requiring chainsaws to free the vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old from Acton, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Drive handheld communication device
- Careless driving
