FERGUS: According to Wellington County OPP a Fergus resident is facing a number of charges after officers discovered 11 occupants in a single SUV.
On Aug. 12, 2026, police said they were conducting routine traffic enforcement when their automated license plate reader flagged a vehicle for potentially being operated without insurance.
Upon further investigation OPP said a Nissan Pathfinder SUV was carrying 11 passengers, eight of which were children who were not buckled down or secured properly.
As a result of the investigation a 31-year-old from Fergus has been charged with;
- Careless driving
- Drive while child passenger not properly secured
- Drive while passenger under 16 fails to properly wear a seat belt (five counts)
- Drive while passenger under 16 fails to occupy position with a seat belt (two counts)
- Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance
- Knowingly give false insurance card
- Driver fail to surrender insurance
- Fail to notify change of address
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
The accused will appear in Guelph courts at an unspecified date.
