NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – An individual is facing 21 charges following an incident in Arthur.
On August 13, 2026, at approximately 6:15 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a disturbance at a residence in Arthur.
Upon arrival, police located an individual operating a farm implement. The individual drove the implement towards officers and struck multiple hydro poles, as well as three police cruisers, causing significant damage.
The individual eventually dismounted the implement and officers detected signs of impairment. The individual was transported to the Wellington County OPP detachment in Teviotdale where they refused to provide breath samples to police.
There were no reported injuries.
As a result of the investigation, a 59-year-old from Arthur, is charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Assault a peace officer (five counts)
- Assault with a weapon (five counts)
- Dangerous operation
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Mischief – destroys or damages property (seven counts)
- Mischief – domestic (two counts)
The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.
The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victim(s).
