NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(GUELPH, ON) – Impaired driver caught at RIDE program, three criminal charges laid.
On August 22, 2026, at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a proactive RIDE program (Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere) within Guelph, when a traffic stop was initiated to determine sobriety.
As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old of Oakville is charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
The accused has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on October 2, 2026.
