NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – Police are investigating an incident in Fergus and are appealing to the public for assistance.
On August 20, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team and the OPP West Region Canine Unit responded to the report of a disturbance on Belsyde Avenue East in Fergus, between Tower Street South and Scotland Street.
It was reported that at approximately 11:00 a.m., the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who brandished a knife and demanded money from the victim. The victim complied and the suspect subsequently fled south on Belsyde Avenue towards the intersection of Tower Street and Belsyde Avenue.
Suspect is described as:
- Male
- Caucasian
- Approximately 17 to 20 years old
- Wearing blue jeans, black t-shirt and black shoes
