CENTRE WELLINGTON – Students and residents in Centre Wellington could soon have greater access to recreational and school facilities through a new agreement between the Township and the Upper Grand District School Board.
At Monday’s meeting, council approved a Reciprocal Use Agreement with the UGDSB that will allow students to access Township recreation facilities during weekdays, when those facilities are generally less busy.
In return, the Township will be able to use select facilities at Centre Wellington District High School, Grand River Public School and Elora Public School during evenings and weekends.
The agreement includes access to spaces such as gymnasiums, classrooms and outdoor areas, with the facilities expected to be available at no cost in most circumstances.
The initial agreement will run for two years, with the option for annual renewals if both the Township and school board agree.
Township staff will now work with the UGDSB to establish bookings and programming, with the agreement expected to take effect in September 2026.
The partnership is aimed at making better use of existing publicly funded facilities while expanding opportunities for recreation, physical activity, health and wellness throughout the community.
