GUELPH — Two men have been taken off the road after being charged with stunt driving in separate incidents in Guelph on Thursday, including a 19-year-old Arthur man whose vehicle was seized indefinitely.
The first incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. when a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting speed enforcement on Woodlawn Road West near Michener Road.
Police said the officer clocked a Volkswagen sedan travelling 105 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued for more than a kilometre before eventually pulling over.
The driver, a 23-year-old man from Breslau, was charged with speeding, stunt driving, failing to provide a driver’s licence and failing to stop for an emergency vehicle.
His driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
A second incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. when another Traffic Unit officer was conducting patrols on Hanlon Parkway.
Police said the officer clocked a vehicle travelling 134 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
An investigation determined the driver, a 19-year-old man from Arthur, is already facing stunt driving and dangerous driving charges stemming from a traffic stop last year.
He was charged with speeding and stunt driving in connection with Thursday’s incident.
His driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days, while his vehicle was seized indefinitely as police sought to prevent further offences.
