Significant storm damage has been reported across parts of southern Ontario following severe weather yesterday afternoon.
The Northern Tornadoes Project says most of the damage has been reported in an area stretching from Bayfield to Cambridge, with some reports of significant damage, including a barn that was destroyed.
Initial assessments suggest the damage was primarily caused by straight-line winds. However, the Northern Tornadoes Project says it’s possible one or more tornadoes may have also been involved.
A damage survey team is expected to leave Western University this morning to investigate the affected areas and determine what caused the damage.
The group is also warning residents about several images circulating online that reportedly show tornadoes in Guelph and Paris. The Northern Tornadoes Project says those images may be AI-generated and should not be considered reliable evidence.
The organization says AI-generated storm images are becoming increasingly common during severe weather events.
Additional damage was also reported in North York in Toronto and near Orr Lake, close to Barrie.

Live Nation Canada says Rogers Stadium, a 50-thousand-capacity outdoor music venue in Toronto’s north end, sustained “significant” damage.
The Northern Tornadoes Project says the results of its damage surveys will be released once they are available.
