Kitchener/Waterloo – Groups of adoptable dogs made an appearance at the Kiwanis Park outdoor pool, just outside of Kitchener/Waterloo, to enjoy some time in the sun and water ahead of the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth’s (KWSP) Dash and Splash fundraiser this weekend.
The annual event welcomes dogs and dog owners from around the neighbourhood to dip their paws in the pool and fundraise for animal welfare.
However, KWSP Humane wanted to give the opportunity for their resident dogs to enjoy some summer fun before the colours of fall blanket Kiwanis Park.
On Thursday, Sept. 10, dogs were assigned into groups based on personality and behavior and staff said it allows the dogs to be their true selves.
Canine specialist Stephanie Betlejemski has been with KWSP Humane for around three years and said enrichment is vital for the dogs’ wellbeing.

Betlejemski said she will also be attending Sunday’s event to ensure every canine companion is safe and healthy for the day.
Kitchener city staff were on deck too; aquatics supervisor Bob Farlow said it’s important to connect with services such as the local humane society.

KWSP Humane selected Kiwanis Park as the perfect playground for pups with plenty of open space and a large outdoor pool.

Sunday’s event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m., there is also a “small dog hour” from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Admission is $20 and funds will be collected to cover the running costs of a humane society.
KWSP Humane marketing and communications coordinator, Breanna Langan, said caring for animals 24/7 is no small feat.
