WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington County is looking at ways to reduce its reliance on American suppliers as ongoing trade tensions and tariffs continue.
A report going before the County’s Administration, Finance and Human Resources Committee Tuesday afternoon shows Wellington County spent $780,634 with U.S. vendors so far in 2026, through the end of August.
That’s slightly more than the $756,816 spent in all of 2025, but below the $830,903 spent in 2024.

The County says most of its U.S. spending is on computer supplies and software, library materials, and training programs, much of which involves online subscriptions.
According to the report, senior management will review the County’s U.S. purchasing during the 2027 budget process, with the goal of reducing reliance on American vendors as much as possible and supporting Canadian businesses.
The report comes as the U.S. has imposed new tariffs on Canadian products, while Canada has responded with tariffs on a range of American goods.
