FERGUS – The KFC restaurant at 675 St. David Street North in Fergus has officially closed its doors.
A sign in the window says “Permanently Closed. Fergus, thank you. It’s been our pleasure serving your community.” The familiar KFC bucket has also been removed from the building, along with the restaurant’s signage.

The closure comes as plans move forward for a new four-storey Hampton Inn hotel at the site.
The Township of Centre Wellington’s Committee of Adjustment approved a minor variance application for the proposed development on August 20th.
Township planning staff had recommended no objection, saying “the proposed hotel represents an appropriate use of the subject property, and the requested variances are not anticipated to result in adverse impacts on surrounding properties. Accordingly, staff are satisfied that the application meets the four tests for a minor variance.”
Plans call for an 83-room hotel, with amenities including a fitness centre, swimming pool, laundry facilities, a restaurant and patio.
There’s currently no construction date for the hotel.
The Grand at 101 has reached out to KFC for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
