ARTHUR – The Township of Wellington North is set to purchase the former Wellington County works yard at 399 Eliza Street in Arthur.
In a joint news release Thursday, the township and county say it has reached an agreement with the County to acquire the property for $450,000.
The site became surplus after the County opened its new Arthur Garage on Wellington Road 109 in May of 2025.
“This site will serve as a Township operations yard for the next several years while staff continue to assess and plan for the long-term facility needs of both Arthur and Mount Forest,” the news release said.
The Township says some initial improvements will be needed, with hopes of having the site ready for use during the 2026-2027 winter season.
The existing works yard in Arthur will continue to be used for indoor storage of equipment and vehicles.
The Township calls the purchase “a practical and strategic opportunity” that will improve current service delivery while creating opportunities to plan for future community needs.
