PUSLINCH – Wellington County OPP are investigating a false emergency call, known as “swatting,” in Puslinch Township.
Police were called to a residence on Maltby Road around 12:30 Thursday afternoon after receiving a 9-1-1 report of a violent family dispute involving weapons.
The report prompted several police units to respond to the property. Investigators later determined the information provided by the caller was false and there was no actual emergency.
OPP says “swatting calls are designed to draw a large police response to a location for what is being reported as an urgent situation.”
Police say these calls divert critical emergency resources and can cause unnecessary alarm and stress in the community.
