CENTRE WELLINGTON – Two 17-year-old males from Guelph have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a fatal pedestrian collision in Centre Wellington.
Wellington County OPP says officers and Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services responded to the collision shortly after midnight on Saturday, September 19.
It happened on Wellington Road 29, south of the Eramosa-Garafraxa Town Line, and involved a pedestrian and a minivan.
The pedestrian, identified as a 16-year-old male from Puslinch Township, was pronounced dead.
On Friday, September 25, police arrested and charged two 17-year-old males from Guelph with second-degree murder, contrary to Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.
Police say both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Saturday, September 26.
Because the accused are youths, their identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and cannot be released.
The Wellington County OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service and OPP Forensic Identification Services.
