CENTRE WELLINGTON – After a weekend win for the U18 boys at the Bellwether Sevens final in Brantford the Fergus Highland Rugby Club is setting the gain line for the Border Sevens tournament, to be hosted in Fergus on Oct. 4.
Fergus Highland’s U18 boys sevens coach, Michael Chapman, said the boys had a bit of a slow start at Bellwether but were able to pull off an important win in Brantford.
He said coming from a more grassroots club any big win is just a testament to the heart and pride that comes from small-town sports clubs.

Now with the Bellwether win in the books, the club is looking forward to this weekend for the Border Sevens tournament and it will be played on Victoria Park Field, overlooked by Fergus Highland’s club house.
Chapman said he is very excited to get back on the field on home turf.
Chapman played rugby for about 10 years before taking a sideline due to injury; he has only been a sevens coach for about a year now but said it has provided a new love for the game.
When asked about what makes his coaching a success with the U18s, Chapman said he values the personal connection with each of the athletes.
But ultimately he said the team’s success revolves around everyone involved.
The Border Sevens Tournament will start at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 5:30 p.m., with U14, U16 and U18 girls and boys on the pitch that day.
It’s a round robin format with each team playing at least three games and the finalists will qualify for provincials.
