GUELPH — Guelph police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate several incidents reported during a large, unsanctioned Homecoming gathering over the weekend.
According to police, officers dealt with a number of incidents throughout the event, including objects being thrown toward crowds, people climbing onto buildings and other structures, and reports of shoplifting and property damage at nearby businesses.
Investigators are now examining reports, video footage and other evidence in an effort to identify those involved. Police say charges could follow as the investigation continues.
“Homecoming is an opportunity to celebrate, but dangerous and unlawful behavior cannot be dismissed as people simply having fun,” said Deputy Chief Steve Gill. “Throwing objects into crowds, climbing buildings and damaging property can cause serious harm. Those who put others at risk must be held accountable.”
Police have released photographs of several individuals they are hoping the public can help identify. The images were taken from videos circulating online and have been posted to the Guelph Police Service website.
Anyone who was injured during the gathering and required medical attention is being encouraged to contact police. Investigators are also asking people whose property was damaged during the event to come forward.
