ELORA – The Centre Wellington Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the fall granting cycle of the Jack R. MacDonald Community Fund.
The fund offers grants of up to $5,000 for eligible projects supporting the former Village of Elora. Applications are being accepted until noon on Friday, October 9.
The fund honours the legacy of Jack R. MacDonald, whose family had deep roots in Elora and who supported the community for decades.
MacDonald lived much of his life in Seattle, but maintained a strong connection to Elora. His father was born in the village in 1885, while his grandfather operated a planing mill there in the 1890s.
Beginning in the 1980s, MacDonald made regular gifts to Elora, including support that helped make the construction of the former Elora town hall possible. He and his wife, Mary, attended the building’s official opening on July 1, 1994, and MacDonald Square was later named in his honour.
“Jack MacDonald’s story is a wonderful example of how generosity can continue to strengthen a community across generations,” said Jean Prichard, Chair of the Centre Wellington Community Foundation.
“Through this fund, his connection to Elora continues to support ideas and projects that make a difference locally.”
Organizations interested in applying are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements and submit their applications before the noon deadline on October 9.
