GUELPH — A 40-year-old Guelph man is facing multiple charges after police say he broke into a fire station early Sunday morning and damaged a fire truck.
According to Guelph Police, the man pried open a window and cut through a screen to get inside the fire station on Speedvale Avenue East while firefighters were sleeping.
Police say, “The man entered a fire truck and caused damage by ripping out the radio’s microphone and damaging a lever. The damage caused the truck to be taken out of service until it can be repaired.”
Police say a captain was awakened by noise, prompting the man to flee the station.
Officers located him hiding nearby after conducting a canine track.
During a search, police say officers recovered “a Guelph Fire Department hat and small quantities of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine.”
Police also determined the man was wanted in connection with another incident involving a stolen SUV that was crashed and abandoned in Guelph’s west end last month.
The 40-year-old faces charges including break and enter, mischief over $5,000, possessing stolen property, disguise with intent, two counts of possessing controlled substances, dangerous driving, failing to remain and breaching a probation order.
He is scheduled to appear in bail court Tuesday.
