The Grand River Conservation Authority has approved its 2027 budget, with total spending set at more than $42.3 million.
The budget was approved at the GRCA’s General Membership meeting on October 23rd.
In a news release, the GRCA says participating municipalities will contribute approximately $14.7 million through municipal apportionment, accounting for about 35 per cent of the total budget. That represents a 3.5 per cent increase in municipal contributions.
The GRCA expects to generate about 46 per cent of its revenue through its own sources, including camping fees, conservation area admissions, environmental education programs, hydro sales, property rentals and planning permits.
Another $4.6 million will come from government grants, while $3.5 million will be drawn from GRCA reserves.
GRCA Chair John Challinor II says the authority is continuing to adapt to a changing regulatory environment while maintaining its focus on responsible spending.
“As we look ahead to 2027, the GRCA continues to adapt to a changing regulatory environment, while remaining focused on delivering effective, efficient, and fiscally responsible programs and services,” says Challinor. “This budget reflects our commitment to working with our municipal partners, protecting communities from natural hazards, conserving vital natural resources, and ensuring that residents across the watershed continue to benefit from the programs and services they rely on.”
The budget was approved earlier than usual following a provincial directive requiring conservation authorities to approve their 2027 budgets at least 30 days before February 1st, 2027.
The GRCA says the budget framework aligns with its Program and Services Inventory, prepared in accordance with provincial regulations.
