CENTRE WELLINGTON – In honour of local veterans and for all who served in the Canadian military the Township of Centre Wellington has unveiled some new decorative crosswalks.
The crosswalks are located at the cenotaph in MacDonald Square in Elora and at the cenotaph in Norman Craig Square in Fergus.

“The project follows a request brought forward by the Royal Canadian Legion branches in Elora and Fergus and was approved by Council as a meaningful addition to the Township’s ongoing recognition of veterans and Remembrance Day,” a township press release said.
They also said the locations were selected at “low-volume” crossings to encourage safe and clear movement for pedestrians, drivers, cyclists and people with mobility devices.
“The Veterans Crosswalks are a terrific salute for those in our community who have served and will be a great visual for our upcoming Remembrance Day Services,” Don Cubbidge, president of the Legion branch 229 (Elora), said in the press release.
Randy Graham, past president and Poppy Chair of Legion branch 275 (Fergus) said “the location on both sides of the cenotaph is perfect and will serve as a daily reminder to all that remembering the sacrifices of the many who gave their lives for our freedoms is all year long and not just one day in November.”
