TORONTO – Team Addy has surpassed a major fundraising milestone, raising more than $1 million for sarcoma research at SickKids Foundation in honour of Addy and her wish to make a difference for other children facing cancer.
In a recent Facebook post, Team Addy celebrated the achievement, describing it as a milestone that is “incredibly hard to put into words.”
“When Addy made her wish, she wanted to make a difference for other children facing sarcoma cancer. She wanted to help change the future for kids who would come after her,” the post reads.
Team Addy, a charity organization founded by Elora’s Addison Hill (Addy) and her family, is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for sarcoma cancer research.
The initiative was born out of Addy’s personal journey after she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called angiosarcoma at just 13 years old in 2021. The Elora teen passed away in July 2022.
Team Addy says the fundraising total represents the collective efforts of countless community members, donors, volunteers and sponsors who have supported Team Addy’s mission and helped raise awareness about sarcoma.
According to the post, the goal has always been about more than raising money. It is about supporting research, improving outcomes and giving children diagnosed with sarcoma a better chance at a future.
“This has never been just about raising money. It’s about funding research, changing outcomes, and giving children with sarcoma a better chance at a future,” Team Addy shared.
A photo shared alongside the announcement shows Team Addy members presenting a donation to SickKids Foundation to support sarcoma research.
While surpassing $1 million marks a significant achievement, the group says its work is far from over.
“Over $1 million raised. And we’re not done,” the post states.
The announcement also carried a message of support for families affected by the disease, emphasizing that no child should have to face cancer and no family should have to navigate the experience alone.
Team Addy closed its message by thanking everyone who has contributed to the fundraising effort and helped carry Addy’s legacy forward.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of Addy’s legacy!”
