FERGUS – The familiar “Welcome to Fergus” sign near Victoria Park is set to be removed next week.
The Township of Centre Wellington says the sign, located on the east side of Tower Street, has reached the end of its useful life and is raising safety concerns if left in place.
“We recognize this sign has been a familiar community landmark for many years. Its removal does not necessarily mean that a replacement sign will be installed in the same location,” the township said in a post to its Facebook page.
The Township says it is currently undertaking a Request for Proposals for a Wayfinding Signage Strategy and Implementation Plan.
“The strategy will help guide future signage decisions by assessing the purpose, location, effectiveness, accessibility, safety, maintenance requirements and overall fit of potential signs within a cohesive Township-wide system,” the township said.
The Township says the goal is to develop a more cohesive signage system throughout Centre Wellington.
The removal is scheduled for Monday, November 9th.
