FERGUS – Wellington County OPP were on-site at Centre Wellington District High School Thursday following tips from concerned individuals regarding threats that were made.
Heather Loney Communications Manager for UGDSB said in an email to The Grand at 101 “Last night (Dec. 1), school staff were made aware of a message on social media threatening violence at CWDHS. The school immediately contacted the police and the police and school are actively investigating. We take this matter very seriously.”
OPP Constable Joshua Cunningham says they are in the preliminary stages of the investigation.
Loney said “School staff are providing communications to parents, students, and staff, and the school is following the appropriate protocols. The school was open today, however, students stayed in their classrooms and staff minimized the number of students in hallways and washrooms. We will provide updates as we can on the school website and through communications with staff, students, and parents.”
