FERGUS- A new elementary school is coming to Fergus.
Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece announced Thursday that Ontario is investing $8.5 million to build the new school.
The province says the investment in the Upper Grand District School Board will support 308 new elementary student spaces to build modern, accessible, and technologically connected schools for Ontario youth.
“This is great news for hard-working families in Centre Wellington,” said Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece. “It will mean new opportunities for children in a safe, modern facility. I want to thank the Upper Grand District School Board and recognize everyone at the local and provincial levels who made the case for this new school.”
The project is part of a provincewide investment of more than $600 million to support new school and child care spaces that were recently announced by Minister of Education Stephen Lecce. The province says the overall investment will support 78 school and child care related projects across the province, creating over 19,700 new student spaces and 3,000 child care spaces.
“We are thrilled to receive government funding to construct a new elementary school to serve the Centre Wellington community,” said Peter Sovran, Director of Education of the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB), and Linda Busuttil, Chair of the UGDSB. They added: “This area continues to grow with substantial residential development approved and underway. This funding will allow us to expand to continue to meet the needs of the Centre Wellington community.”
In an email to The Grand at 101 Heather Loney Communications Manager with UGDSB says “The new elementary school is planned in Phase 1 of the Storybrook Subdivision in Fergus.”
