Two males were arrested for assault during unrelated incidents overnight.
Approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the Guelph Police Service was called to a reported disturbance at a house party in the area of Gordon Street and Harts Lane West. Investigation revealed a number of parties were involved in a verbal altercation, during which two females were punched in the face.
Both females complained of minor injuries but did not seek medical attention. A 20-year-old Mississauga male was arrested for two counts of assault. He will appear in a Guelph court May 3, 2022.
Approximately 1:20 a.m. Friday, officers on patrol downtown were alerted to an unprovoked assault which had just occurred in the area of Wyndham Street North and Quebec Street. An adult female was punched in the face and was found to have a bloody nose.
The responsible male was walking away while being followed by several individuals. Officers stopped the male and arrested him. A 23-year-old Guelph male is charged with assault and public intoxication. He will appear in a Guelph court May 6, 2022. The female victim was transported to hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The Guelph Police Service, University of Guelph Campus Safety Office, City of Guelph Bylaw and Public Works departments, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service and Guelph Fire Department all had additional resources deployed Thursday to ensure those celebrating St. Patrick’s Day were able to do so safely.
Officials responded for eight noise complaints, with one charge issued under the city’s noise bylaw.
Officers from the Guelph Police Service and Wellington County OPP conducted joint RIDE spot checks at various locations. More than 400 vehicles were stopped and nine drivers were asked to provide breath samples into an approved roadside screening device.
One male was charged by OPP with impaired operation on the Hanlon Expressway near College Avenue West. Five Public Offence Notices were issued, including three under the Liquor Licence and Control Act and two under the Highway Traffic Act.
