Tree Trust is looking for some political support for what it calls a “Made in Centre Wellington Initiative”
The group has launched a carbon offset calculator which lets you find out just how much carbon you are emitting through travel and other activities.
Board Member Toni Ellis told Centre Wellington councillors it’s a local initiative they should be proud to support.
She also asked the Committee of the Whole meeting for financial support from councillors, equalling what ever carbon offsets would be needed for their own travel. She also hopes the initiative could be brought forward to staff.
Councillors have asked for a staff report before taking any further steps.
Ellis also told councillors the Tree Trust carbon offset is unique because all the funds raised through the program will go to work in Centre Wellington to protect the trees we already have, and of course work towards increasing the tree canopy.
