The County of Wellington, along with the Indigenous Advisory Committee (IAC),
will be sharing information about The Indigenous Gathering Circle project proposed on the
grounds of Wellington Place in Aboyne.
Many exciting plans are being developed for an Indigenous Gathering Circle at Wellington
Place. As plans for the space develop, the IAC invites the public to learn about the project, and
to participate in an online information session.

The Indigenous Gathering Circle was developed as part of the Wellington Place Mini Masterplan, approved by County Council in 2021. The Masterplan continues with the original
vision of Wellington Place, creating a dynamic and inviting property that offers opportunities
for social connectedness.
“Arising from a need identified by County of Wellington Indigenous staff, this Gathering Circle is
intended to provide land-based, natural space for education, healing, and inclusivity,” said
Colleen Brunelle, IAC Member. “We look forward to strengthening existing partnerships and
forging new ones as we work towards Reconciliation in a good way. There is space for all of us
in this project – Indigenous, neighbours and allies.”
“The IAC originally requested space at the Wellington Place campus to grow medicines for
ceremony. With the vision and support of County Council, this project developed into a much
larger one, resulting in the creation of a dedicated two-acre Indigenous space at the campus,”
commented Jana Burns, Wellington Place Administrator.
Coinciding with the creation of the Indigenous Gathering Circle, the IAC’s Amber Holmes will
also be unveiling her exhibit at the Museum, “Living in Relation,” on June 15. This exhibit brings
attention to what is under our feet and all around us, including the plants, the animals, and the
waters that sustain us as human beings. This exhibit explores the concept of “who we are” as
being relational.
A recorded version of the presentation will be available at www.wellington.ca/gatheringcircle
after the event. The public will be able to provide input and ask questions via the webpage.
