NEWS RELEASE TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON
CENTRE WELLINGTON – Storm clean-up efforts continue following an EF0 downburst storm with winds at approximately 130 km/h that ripped through Elora and parts of Centre Wellington this past Wednesday. Now that staff have officially re-opened all roads in the township and cleaned up debris and downed trees from roads, we are able to focus our efforts on assisting residents with storm debris on boulevards and shoulders.
Beginning Monday, August 8th Township staff will begin in Elora on the south side of the river, focussing on where majority of the damage occurred from the storm. They will move through Elora and the affected rural areas over the next several weeks, stopping once on every street to support curbside clean-up. We ask that residents remain patient with staff, as it may take several weeks to pick up all storm related debris.
- Residents will be required to pile all branches neatly at the edge of the road with the cut ends of the branches facing the street
- Large tree debris (trunks and large branches) will be included in the debris pick-up
- Only storm related tree debris will be picked up at this time, this is not a general yard waste pick-up
- Staff will visit each street only once for storm related debris, so please ensure all material is curbside by 7 a.m. on Monday, August 8th.
“I cannot thank our Public Works, Infrastructure, Centre Wellington Fire Rescue Service and township staff enough for the dedication they have put forward over the last three days, and continue to do, to support our residents during the aftermath of the storm,” said Mayor Linton. “Staff were stationed as soon as the storm concluded on Wednesday evening and have not stopped since. They have re-opened roads, ensured our wastewater was safe, and assisted many residents already with clean-up efforts. Thank you to everyone for pulling together and showing that we are part of an amazing community here in Centre Wellington.”
The County has also waived disposal fees for storm-related tree debris at the Aberfoyle, Belwood, Harriston and Riverstown waste facilities until Saturday, August 13th to assist with clean-up efforts. For more information, please visit www.wellington.ca/sws
