CENTRE WELLINGTON – It’s was busy day for Centre Wellington Council as the first of two days of deliberations get underway.
This is the first budget for the township’s new mayor and council.
In a presentation to council, CAO Dan Wilson says when staff initially compiled the 2023 draft budget book, the township was at a tax rate increase of 6.09%.
Wilson says staff were able to find $366,635 (2.27%) in budget reductions, which included reducing staff positions, asset management, infrastructure services, revenue increases and other reductions.
Staff was able to bring the net regular increase down to 3.82%, making the overall township’s proposed increase 3.48%.
Wilson says the estimated inflationary impact to the township is 9.1%, the township would absorb 5.62% of inflation into the budget.
Meanwhile, Wilson also shared what the proposed budget increase of 3.48% means for the average residential property in Centre Wellington.
Wilson says when blending the townships proposed 3.48% with the County of Wellington’s recently passed increase of 3.8%, the combined impact on the averaged assessed household is awaited average of 3.19% increase in taxation.
That is $45 for the township and $93 for the county.
Today (Monday) was day one of the 2023 Budget deliberations, another meeting will take place on Wednesday.
