After a Guelph woman lost $15,000 to a scam, The Guelph Police Service is reminding residents to be cautious when dealing with unknown parties.
The victim contacted police Monday, and said she received a message on her computer claiming to be from Microsoft technical support. She spoke to a man on the phone who told her to purchase $15,000 in Apple gift cards to fix the problem.
The victim purchased $5,000 in gift cards from each of three businesses and gave the PIN numbers to the man.
The Guelph Police Service would like to remind the public to be vigilant whenever you are speaking with someone you don’t know.
