The growth of softball and one man’s dedication to it led to a distinct honour in the Township of Puslinch. Cameron Tuck was named Volunteer of the Year.
Tuck has had his hands in minor softball in Puslinch since his now-ten-year-old son began to play at age four- a time when there was only tee-ball and three-pitch available in Puslinch. He has since joined the Puslinch Softball Board of Directors.
Coaching is near and dear to Tuck’s heart, and he says it’s about more than just the game.
The award came as a shock to Tuck, who told The Grand at 101 he has many to thank, including locals Carly Seeley and councilor Sara Bailey.
He says there is work still to be done, however the area’s softball passion has grown to the point of having three U-11 teams, one U-13, and hopefully soon a U-15.
Clearly, for the award-winner, continuing to expand is a focus.
They have nearly 120 registers for the coming season, and Tuck says more than half of the kids from his son’s school in his age bracket are playing local softball.
Tuck mentioned he loves learning the different personalities of the kids he coaches and seeing his passion for the game becoming contagious.
