FERGUS – A Habitat for Humanity attainable housing project in Fergus has been given final approval.
In February, the Township of Centre Wellington received a zoning application for Habitats plan to build 32 3-storey stacked townhouse residential units at 465 Garafraxa Street West.
The build aims to assist communities with housing affordability by offering a unique ownership model that sees them partner with lower income families, allowing these families to build independence through home ownership.
The units would be built within 3 blocks with unit types consisting of fourteen 4-bedroom units, fourteen 3-bedroom units and four 2- bedroom units.
In a report to Council on Monday, the townships Senior Planner, Mariana Iglesias said a public meeting was held in March on the application, where some residents who neighbour the potential development were worried about the lack of side walks and storm water management.
Iglesias says further details such as potential trail connections, amenity areas, bicycle parking were also noted at the meeting, and will be addressed during the detailed site plan design stage.
Council approved the zoning amendment unanimously.
According to the Habitat website construction will begin in 2023.
