A Palmerston mom is rallying people to try and save a grade 9 theatre class.
The course, that is planned to be cut from the curriculum, was taken last semester by Maggie Moore’s daughter at Norwell District Secondary School in Palmerston. Moore was chagrined to realize that the group could potentially be the last to do so.
In a written statement to The Grand at 101, UGDSB stated “if sufficient student interest through the course selection process occurs, the course could be offered again in future years.”
Moore sent a written letter of her own pledging to keep the program alive. The petition she’s created, between online and paper copy, has almost 1200 signatures.
She reminds people that the kids have no semblance of a governing body to help them preserve what they want.
She says she isn’t shocked by the large number of signatures on the petition, because Theatre Norwell is a “true jewel that shines in so many ways.”
Moore also stated she is confused why the course would be shut down if it follows the guidelines the board itself has laid out.
She says any further action she takes will hinge on the actions of the board.
