FERGUS – No injuries were reported after a house fire in Fergus Tuesday afternoon.
Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue from both Fergus and Elora stations were called at around 2pm to a residence on Woodside Street for the report of a possible structure fire.
Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Karn says when crews arrived on the scene there was smoke coming from the home.
Karn says it turns out nobody was home at the time, however, there were two dogs and two cats.
He says firefighters were able to locate all of the animals and remove them. “In fact, we had to give the one cat some medical attention and were able to revive that animal for the homeowners. All animals are now ok and accounted for.” Karn said.
He says crews are now treating hot spots and will begin the investigation into what caused the fire.
No cause has been confirmed but Karn says investigators know the area of origin.
The investigation is ongoing.
Woodside Street was closed between Garafraxa Street West and Forfar Street West in Fergus but has since reopened.
