The County of Wellington’s housing services department is projected to be $2.4 million over budget by the end of the year.
According to a county report, The Homelessness Prevention Programme has faced a great deal of pressures in 2023 and is anticipated that unbudgeted costs to support the shelter system will be close to $1.5 million leading to a year-end over expenditure of $1.3 million
Social housing units and move-out repairs make up the remainder of the sum.
The report says the cost for labour, materials and abatement for all repairs and maintenance have increased at a rate greater than budget.
The County will pay $280,000 with the rest falling on the City of Guelph. The report states these costs, above provincial funding allocation, will be funded municipally.
