A mental health provider, offering service locally since the late 1960’s, was surprised by the lack of consultation on a recent provincial service announcement.
The provincial announcement of a van providing mental health services in Huron-Bruce and Perth-Wellington counties came without the input of existing service providers.
Helen Fishburn, CEO of Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo-Wellington (CMHAWW), says these providers already offer excellent care in our community.
Fishburn says she wishes her group had gotten a chance to offer their advice and fill the province in on the needs of the community.
She says she believes providers local to Wellington County are providing services with great efficiency and believes the funds could have been utilized elsewhere.
Despite the lack of consultation, Fishburn is welcoming new resources to support mental health addiction and crisis needs, especially in rural areas where she says resources are often spread thin.
She explained CMHA Waterloo-Wellington will make sure the community knows where and how to connect with this new service and existing ones.
