A group of bridges in the former Pilkington Township will be evaluated, per a report that will come before Centre Wellington council on Monday.
The township will examine alternative solutions, including permanent closure, rehabilitation, or replacement for each of the five structures that were deemed a public safety risk due to deterioration.
That requires a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Study.
According to the report, many will be consulted throughout the process, including external agencies, Indigenous Communities, and township council and committees.
The report also states the structures are currently closed to vehicular traffic due to their state. The study will evaluate the role of these structures within the transportation network, connectivity in the local community and determine the most suitable alternative at each location.
The project team will proceed with the detailed evaluation and consultation phase of the study, with the goal of establishing a preliminary alternative solution. Staff will prepare and present a report to township council in winter of 2024.
