The future of two heritage properties was discussed at Centre Wellington council Monday.
19 and 19 A East Mill Street were the subject properties, following discussion at a heritage meeting at which the owner was present.
19 East Mill Street is a stone building while 19 A is a red brick dwelling.
The proposal which was approved by council was to remove the building at the front of East Mill Street, leaving the original stone structure to remain for future restoration. Meanwhile the red brick building with stucco clad is to be fully demolished.
A June public meeting was held for the circa 1859 constructed buildings, which Centre Wellington Mayor Shawn Watters agreed were bittersweet to agree to say goodbye to.
Watters said he knew the decision to proceed with the proposed action was the right one.
The plan for the stone building is commercial use, likely a restaurant.
There is no distinct timeline, though demolition of the red brick building is imminent as it’s designated a safety hazard.
