A local supply teacher and conservationist is bringing his own unique spin on education to the region, be it inside the classroom, or outdoors.
Splashpads, parks and more have been home to outdoor lessons from Adventures with Nature, a local non-for-profit.
Chris St Peters, founder of the organization, was at the Fergus Splashpad last Sunday teaching about environmentalism and more.
St Peters, who has been in the Upper Grand District School Board for five years between being a supply and long-term occasional teacher, is often one to look at how to alter lesson plans to hit multiple targets at once.
St Peters says his interest to provide outdoor education was piqued at a First Nations conference in Sudbury.
He met many others with a common interest in the environment, and has since offered lessons with Adventures with Nature, across the County.
His visit to the splashpad in Fergus, he says, is just the beginning.
St Peters makes the connection between messages we watch in lighthearted programming as kids, he says, as he hopes they can be translated into how we treat the earth.
St Peters says he hopes to make appearances throughout the county engaging, as he states a scavenger hunt for park teachings is in the works. He will be at the Fergus Multicultural Festival September 23rd.
